Northern Neck Regional Office

The Rappahannock Area Office on Youth’s Northern Neck Regional Office services the counties of Essex, Lancaster, Northumberland, Richmond, and Westmoreland. Services target CHINS, Diversion, Probation, and Parole referrals.

Teenagers

Restorative Justice

  • Diversion program educating clients on each of the Restorative Justice Pillars while learning about accountability, empathy, and healthy decision making

  • Facilitated sessions focus on ensuring clients understand how their actions impacted themselves, their family, and their community

Anger Management

  • Facilitated, classroom-based program

  • Curriculum includes identifying triggers and cues to anger and completing a conflict trigger scale, developing a plan to keep anger from escalating to aggression, identifying cost of aggression and introducing effective coping skills including reframing conflict and decisional balance activities

Community Service Work

  • Community-based projects supervised by the agency facilitators occurring throughout the region

Electronic Monitoring & Surveillance Program

  • Community-based alternative to secure detention for low and moderate-risk clients pending a court appearance

  • Participants are fitted with a monitoring system and receive regular visits from an agency facilitator to monitor compliance

Decision Points

  • Activities focus on life skills development including employment, academics, social skills, and behavior management

  • Incorporates the “Decision Points” curriculum, and evidence-based program to improve decision-making skills leading to better outcomes

Substance Abuse Avoidance Group Education (SAAGE)

  • Facilitated group education program focusing on the effects of substance use on the brain, coping strategies, building resiliency, cycle of addiction/recovery, and motivation for change

Check and Connect

  • School-based mentoring program assisting students who are struggling with truancy, academics, and behavior issues

  • Weekly 1:1 sessions focusing on meeting attendance, academic, and behavioral expectations while utilizing current school-based data to monitor students’ progress
