SAGE Program
(Substance Abuse
Group Education)
SAGE is an educational program that uses group processes
to encourage the development of critical thinking and problem solving skills in the arena of drug and
alcohol abuse. The participants in the SAGE program are primarily referred to the Office on Youth
by the court system, schools, agencies, and parents/guardians.
What SAGE Offers:
Basic
drug and alcohol education regarding substances and their physical, mental and
social effects.
Educational programming geared towards frank and honest
discussions on issues facing today’s teens.
Lifestyle evaluations, encouraging participants to evaluate their
decisions in relation to future goals.
Interactive group discussions and activities regarding substance
abuse.
Encourage the development of personal and social goals to assist
in strengthening drug resistance skills.
Focus on incorporating participants in program development.
Operation
of the Program:
The SAGE Program is a six (6) week drug education program that hinges largely on group
process. Attendance to this group is mandatory and required of all participants.
Drug
Testing:
The participants of the program receive random drug tests throughout the program. The results of these
drug tests are shared with the referring agency(s).
Assessments,
Referrals, & Assistance:
The program administers various chemical dependency assessments or surveys in an attempt to determine if
potential chemical dependency issues may exist.
The SAGE program is a drug education program, not a counseling
service. SAGE facilitators can not and will not counsel participants.
The SAGE program can and will assist participants and
their parents/guardians as a referral agent/advocate in locating available services within the community for a
wide variety of individualized needs.
Reports:
SAGE participants receive reports at the conclusion of the program outlining participation in group, results of
surveys/assessments, drug tests and any suggestions or recommendations from the SAGE facilitator.
